I saw the corners of Amane’s lips raise just slightly.

Eri and I went to the coast of the cliff-top of our marine-erosion hideout.
Chickens are kept around the front of the cliff.

There are ten chickens in the wooden enclosure.

There’s a little story that if you cover the door with a red cloth then it’s easier to enter.
This is a piece of trivia Karin taught me and I adopted it even though I have doubts about the story.

Chickens lay eggs once a day so having ten eggs is the best result we could have.
All ten hens we captured have laid eggs.

The laying period is about two years and there are days where they stop laying on the latter half.
The hens we captured are young by their looks so I think it’ll be safe for a while.

I’m more surprised why Eri’s surprised.

So that’s what she’s surprised about? I get it.
It’s a common misconception by people who aren’t interested in livestock farming.
「 Could it be that you think that fertilized eggs already have a chick inside? 」

「 If you raise them then they’ll become chicks, but they’re not much different from sterile eggs when they’re just laid. So, if you crack the eggs and found a few fertilized eggs, I don’t think that even Eri can find the difference. After all, they look exactly the same, both having whites and yolks 」
